Leviticus 6:26

The priest that offereth it for sin shall eat it: in the holy place shall it be eaten, in the court of the tabernacle of the congregation.

We have here so much of the law of the sin-offering as did peculiarly concern the priests that offered it. As, 1. That it must be killed in the place where the burnt-offering was killed (Lev 6:25), that is, on the north side of the altar (Lev 1:11), which, some think typified the crucifying of Christ on mount Calvary, which was on the north side of Jerusalem. 2. That the priest who offered it for the sinner was (with his sons, or other priests, Lev 6:29) to eat the flesh of it, after the blood and fat had been offered to God, in the court of the tabernacle, Lev 6:26. THE LAW OF THE SIN OFFERING. (Lev 6:21-30) This is the law of the sin offering--It was slain, and the fat and inwards, after being washed and salted, were burnt upon the altar. But the rest of the carcass belonged to the officiating priest. He and his family might feast upon it--only, however, within the precincts of the tabernacle; and none else were allowed to partake of it but the members of a priestly family--and not even they, if under any ceremonial defilement. The priest - shall eat it - From the expostulation of Moses with Aaron, Lev 10:17, we learn that the priest, by eating the sin-offering of the people, was considered as bearing their sin, and typically removing it from them: and besides, this was a part of their maintenance, or what the Scripture calls their inheritance; see Eze 44:27-30. This was afterwards greatly abused; for improper persons endeavored to get into the priest's office merely that they might get a secular provision, which is a horrible profanity in the sight of God. See Sa1 2:36; Jer 23:12; Eze 34:2-4; and Hos 4:8.

About the sacrifice for sin the text says: The priest who offers it, will eat it. He will not eat what he offers -because this will be consumed by fire-, but what remains, because it is not a holocaust, which should burn everything on the altar. Then he says: None of the victims offered for sin, whose blood has been taken to the tabernacle of the testimony for prayer in the saint, will be eaten, but will be consumed by fire. So, how do the things that can be eaten belong to the priests, what remains of the sacrifices for sins? This must be understood in the sense that the victims whose blood is touched by the altar of incense, located in the tabernacle of the testimony, are excluded. For the Scripture previously ordered that this be done with the bull that the priest would offer for his sin, and the bull that would be offered for the sin of the whole assembly, so that the excess flesh should be burned on the outside, outside the camp (Cf Lv 4,12.21). This is also remembered briefly now. 19 (Lv 7.1). This is the law of the ram that is offered for the crime: they are very holy things, therefore, it is the priests who can eat them.
