What it's about
Isaacson shadowed Musk for two years — in meetings, on factory floors, at three in the morning during the Twitter takeover — and came away with a book that refuses the two easy verdicts. It is neither a hagiography of the man who made electric cars and reusable rockets ordinary, nor a prosecution of the man who fires people by text. Its actual question is harder and it is asked on almost every page: whether the demons that produce the achievements can be separated from the ones that produce the wreckage, and whether anyone would want the trade.
