What it's about
Laura Vanderkam argues that the common complaint of having no time is usually a perception problem, not a math problem. By reframing time as a weekly budget of 168 hours rather than a daily scramble, and by logging actual hours spent, most people discover slack they didn't know existed. The book mattered because it challenged the busyness-as-virtue culture of the 2000s with data rather than platitudes, urging readers toward deliberate, values-based use of discretionary time.

Start a circle and share the code — everyone sees everyone's honest place in the book. Accountability, not leaderboards.
Who it's for
- A salaried professional who feels perpetually behind despite a manageable workload - A parent juggling career and home who assumes free time is a luxury they can't afford - Anyone who has never tracked their actual hours and suspects their sense of a busy week might be exaggerated
What’s inside
- 1The 168-Hour Frame1 min
Treating time as a weekly budget of 168 hours, rather than a daily scramble, reveals slack that the 24-hour lens hides.
- 2The Time Log1 min
People cannot manage time they haven't measured, because self-reports of hours worked or watched are systematically wrong.
- 3The Overwork Myth1 min
The story of the exhausted, time-starved professional is often exaggerated by people who conflate feeling busy with being busy.
- 4Core Competence at Work1 min
Career time is best spent on the few things only you can do well, not on tasks anyone could do.
- 5Outsourcing and Elimination1 min
Spending money to buy back hours from chores is usually a better investment than doing everything yourself to save money.
- 6The List of 100 Dreams1 min
Freed time is wasted unless it's pointed at concretely identified goals, which is why writing down a hundred wanted things matters more than finding time itself.
- 7Career as a Long Game1 min
Choosing work you love and negotiating for flexibility does more for lifetime time-wealth than optimizing a job you dislike.
